Accenture Placement Paper

1 APTITUDE TEST:-Very easy test . U just need to brush up ur skills and go through RS Aggrwal (Verbal & Non- Verbal) and U will be through

QUESTIONS WERE THESE TYPES
Q.1 to Q.3 Prepositions

One of the questions was-__ his vacation, Ram went __ the forest and also walked __ the river.
Ans: During, to, along (other options may confuse you, like you would think it can be 'across the river', but choose the one in which all three are fitting)

There was 1 question that had only 1 blank as well.
Q.4 to Q.6- Choose the closest meaning to the words in Italics:
One of the questions was-
Due to his versatile qualities, Mohan was able to do all types of jobs quite easily.
Ans: Flexible

(Other options can confuse you like 'Multi-talented' was an option, but choose the word that exactly fits in the sentence and carries the correct meaning)

Q.7- Q.10 Articles:
Fill in the articles in the following sentences:

One of the questions was-__ essay, which was later chosen as __ best, was written by __ student who used to be quiet in the class.
Ans: The, the, the

(These type of questions were quite easy and there were 1-2 questions that had only 1 blank as well)

Q.11- Q.15 were based on a passage that was related to operating system (OS 2 and its newer versions. It was compared to other operating systems and its advantages and disadvantages were discussed)
The answers of the 3 questions were within the passage and answers of 2 questions had to be given by interpreting the passage. So I would suggest, since the passage was long and time consuming, better have a glance on the questions before starting the reading.

Q.16- Q.20 were based on another passage on PLM (Process Life cycle Management)This passage was very long so I left it for the end.

Apply the same trick for answering the questions of the very long passage!!!

SECTION II- Q.21 to Q.40
Q.21- Q.26 These were the questions based on Venn diagram.
Example:If in a class 80 people speak English, 42 speak French, 65 speak Hindi, 12 speak both English and Hindi, 17 speak both French and Hindi, 13 speak both English and French and 6 speak all three languages, how many people are there in all?

Q.27- Q.30 A variety of questions were there:
Example:1 question on Blood relation-

Example:Pointing to a man Carl said, "He is the son of brother of my mother's husband." How are Carl and the man related?
Ans: Paternal Cousin

1 question on Directions-
A man walked 2 km east, then he turned NE and walked 5 km. Then he walked 2 km west. How much and in which direction should he move to reach the initial point?
Ans: 5 km South-West

31-35 were of following type:
Two sentences are given below. Mark the answer according to the following:
A- If only FIRST sentence is required to verify the sentence
B- If only SECOND sentence is required to verify the sentence
C- If both FIRST and SECOND sentence are required to verify the sentence
D- Cannot be verified even if both sentences are considered

Example:
Two trains are traveling towards each other. When will the two trains meet? If -
1. Train A is coming at a speed of 20km/hr
2. Train B is coming at a speed of 30km/hr
Ans: D

36-40 were based on:If 1 is written as $, and 0 is written as *. Then answer the following:
(e.g. 4 is written as $** and 3 is written as $$)

Example:3*5-12+10-9/3
The solution of the above expression can be represented as?Ans: $*$* (1010 in binary i.e. ten in decimal)

SECTION III- Q.41 to Q.55
Q.41- Q.45 Mark the answers according to the following:
A- If all the three options match
B- If FIRST and SECOND options match
C- If FIRST and THIRD options match
D- If none of the three match

Example:KKTUJNGDFTSR KKTUJHGDFTSR KKTUJNGDFTSR
Ans: C

Another example:1896.5738491023 1896.5783491023 1896.5738461023
Ans: D

Q.46-Q.49 were based on the Puzzle-type question. It said:Following was the criteria decided by the selection committee of Indian Cricket Board:

If 1st condition is not fulfilled .. referred to chairman
If 2nd condition is not fulfilled .. he must be an all rounder with at least 500 runs and 15 wickets
If 4th condition is not fulfilled .. referred to VP

Questions were like following example:Rahul was born on Dec.10,1979 and is a captain of Ranji team since Feb 2005. He won man of the tournament last year for taking 24 wickets last year. He is:
a) Selected b) Rejected c) Referred to Chairman d)Data Insufficient
Ans: a
(These questions are also easy if you draw a table with names of the aspirant in rows and criteria in the columns, and then checking whether he/she fulfils it or not)

Q.50- Q.55 were also a bit easy and were of two types:
Example of type 1:
If * means +, + means -, - means / and / means *, then what is the value of-
8+4-9*7/12+3

Example of type 2:If * means /, / means -, - means + and + means *, then which of the following is true:
a) 7+43*2/13-7+8 = 22.6 b) 4-9*7/4*2/3-7+2 = 25 .. ..

ACCENTURE 8TH APRIL

I appeared for ACCENTURE on 8th of April, 06. Paper was easy but lengthy, time management is the main strategy. The paper went something like this:
1) Verbal Section:
A) Passage 1 (5 questions)> theme: Do not believe whatever you read in newspaper. Questions were direct except the last one. the last question was based on the central idea of the passage.(Apprx. passage length : 300 words )
B) Passage 2 (5 questions)> theme:benefits from the merger of IT companies.questions were not very direct.but, obviously managable.( length : 400 words)
C) Synonyms (5 questions)> words were: superfluous,aroma,shied
D) Grammer (5 questions)> selecting the right sentence from 4 options. options were close, need to read between words.based on tense and article.
E) Preposotions (5 questions)>very very easy questions. 1 example: received _____ thank ______ Mr. Murthy a sum ____ Rs. 50000.(Ans:With,from,of)
2) Quantitative Section:
lengthy solutions. suggestion is that approach should be option based.solving traditionally may take a lot of time.
Examples:
1) Three persons A,B,C participates in a race. A completes one lap in 10 mins, B in 12 mins, and C in 16 mins. How many laps has A run when all the three participants meet for the first time.
2) How many multiples of 3 when added together gives 1134?
3) Mr. X reads 1/5th of a book on Monday, on Tuesday he reads 5/8th of the remaining. On Wednesday, he reads 49 pages and thereby completes the book. How many pages the book consists of?
Questions were on Area, Perimeter,Pipes & Cisterns, Time & Work, Sequences, nymber System,Speed Distance & time, Profit and loss,
3) Logical Reasoning:
A)Venn-diagram (3 questions)>. Simple questions-need to know just the basics of Venn-Diagram.
B)Syllogism(5 questions)>
Example: All cats are dogs.
All bats are cats.
4 options after this, you have to select the correct conclusion.
C)Picture based questions ( 5 questions): R.S.Agarwal Non-Verbal Ability book may help. I found these 5 questions confusing.
D) questions on operators (3 questions):
example: If " means - ", " means / ", then whats the value of (96)(84).
E)Questions on Scheduling:
Example: A,B,C,D,e,F are 6 programmes to be organised on Wednesday evening show. If A is scheduled then B is not scheduled.( totally 6 conditions)
Option based approach should be undoubtly adopted or will become unmanagable.

Accenture Paper : 24 February 2010

Accenture - High Performance, Delivered .
This is completely my experience:
Accenture Selection Procedure:

Round 1. Aptitude Round: As everyone says that aptitude round will be very easy in Accenture, I don't agree completely, i would rather say u have to pay attention .The patter is similar from many years , but the quality of questions is matters that's all.

Pattern :
Section 1:
Q1-Q5 = articles ,
Q6-Q10 = nearest meaning like that anything regarding to verbal.
Q10 -Q20 = two essay will be provided , answer to respective question by looking at the essay.

Section 2:
Q20-Q40 = simple mathematical questions ( train pro, work, time, date, ranks etc) ,
Q40 - Q50 = alike , like kinds of question, very simple easy to score.
Q50 -Q55 = inter link questions.

Round 2 : Group Discussion
My topic was "Is IT boon or bane ", this is the first time i participated in GD in entire my career, but i gave a best shot. and i would like to suggest some of my experience.

 • try to be first person to start the discussion, with proper and strong points.
 • with a minute u should analyze who is strong opponent, and try to engage your discussion with those persons and most important is grab their attention towards you and so u will know when they are going to stop and immediately u can catch the opportunity.
 • when some one who is very weak in making a statement and when he is trying to do so, don't interrupt them, listen to them that gets you a + point.
 • Finally u should engage a war on who is more stronger than you not who is weaker than you.
 • Keep the flow clearly and short.
 • High expectation will there and they will select out of 12 around 6 or 7

Round 3: Technical Round

The interviewer asked me " tell me about yourself " then asked in engineering which is your favorite subject,
as i was form ECE so I said Communication Networks, then questions were,
 • what do you know about networks.
 • If I m sitting and want to send a mail to US , then how will communication networks comes into picture.
 • explain each layer of network in more understanding way.
 • what is router.
 • what is network.
 • what is Ethernet.
 • how does Ethernet is different from IP.
 • what will happen after physical layer.
 • how do you choose modulation.
 • what are the modulations do we have.
 • what is wireless how will msg goes if its wireless.
and so on he started to questions, I took like about 40 min to answer all this, in between I was nervous and he asked me to take 2 min rest if I want and then continue. And at the end he asked about the project which I m currently doing in my final sem.

After all this is looked at his watch and asked me, " you accenture is hiring software engg, so what do you know about language ?? " and i continued to say, c,c++,data structure using c++, and i guess it was already reached an hour and he too wanted to winded up so he asked to to write a pseudo code for finding all the prime no in a group of array and display only those prime nos ?? I explain how i start what flow I choose, etc .. "DON'T SIMPLY WRITE THE PROGRAM , Explain while you are writing why Wat for "

Round 4 : H R
My HR was really difficult and very strict person, i understood that earlier as i asked many of their experience who finished their HR round, i knew it, this HR guy is eliminating many , and i shd give my best of best shot. And i was the last guy to HR round, the question were like this.
 • tell me about yourself s.
 • what do you do in free time.
 • what is your hobbies.
 • why you want to be in Accenture.
 • what do you know about Accenture.
 • name some top IT companies.
 • name some top IT persons.
 • Who is role model ,why , how.
 • if some one in the group doesn't work , then Wat will you do.
 • have you represented your self anywhere.
 • have you worked with in a group any time apart from your project.
 • tell me about your project.
 • ok do you want ask me anything and i fired two questions .
Be enthusiastic to answer that will work out everything for you.

After all this round i got placed. Actually it was a pool campus, from our coll around 300 ppl gave the apti test and 48 got selected and later next round GD was in other coll, where from all five colleges 190ppl were their who cleared aptitude test. and in GD they eliminated the most and then in tech round and most in HR and i guess around 52 got selected from all five colleges, and 11 out of them were from our coll and i m one among them.

I wrote this bcoz , some ppl who got selected similar posted their experience which helped me lot in preparation so i thought to explain my exp so that some more will reap the benefits...
Thank you

Directions for Questions 11-14: Read the passage and answer the questions that follow on the basis of the information provided in the passage.
Disequilibrium at the interface of water and air is a factor on which the transfer of heat and water vapor from the ocean to the air depends. The air within about a millimeter of the water is almost saturated with water vapor and the temperature of the air is close to that of the surface water. Irrespective of how small these differences might be, they are crucial, and the disequilibrium is maintained by air near the surface mixing with air higher up, which is typically appreciably cooler and lower in water vapor content. The turbulence, which takes its energy from the wind mixes the air. As the speed of wind increases, so does the turbulence, and consequently the rate of heat and moisture transfer. We can arrive at a detailed understanding of this phenomenon after further study. The transfer of momentum from wind to water, which occurs when waves are formed is an interacting-and complicated phenomenon. When waves are made by the wind, it transfers important amounts of energy-energy, which is consequently not available for the production of turbulence.

11. This passage principally intends to:
A. resolve a controversy
B. attempt a description of a phenomenon
C. sketch a theory
D. reinforce certain research findings
E. tabulate various observations
Answer : B

12. The wind over the ocean usually does which of the following according to the given passage?
I. Leads to cool, dry air coming in proximity with the ocean surface.
II. Maintains a steady rate of heat and moisture transfer between the ocean and the air.
III. Results in frequent changes in the ocean surface temperature.
A. I only
B. II only
C. I and II only
D. II and III only
E. I, II, and III
Answer : A

13. According to the author the present knowledge regarding heat and moisture transfer from the ocean to air as
A. revolutionary
B. inconsequential
C. outdated
D. derivative
E. incomplete
Answer : E

14. According to the given passage, in case the wind was to decrease until there was no wind at all, which of the following would occur?
A. The air, which is closest to the ocean surface would get saturated with water vapor.
B. The water would be cooler than the air closest to the ocean surface.
C. There would be a decrease in the amount of moisture in the air closest to the ocean surface.
D. There would be an increase in the rate of heat and moisture transfer.
E. The temperature of the air closest to the ocean and that of the air higher up would be the same.
Answer : A

Directions for Questions 15-20: Read the passage and answer the questions that follow on the basis of the information provided in the passage.
Roger Rosenberg's book Black Fiction, manages to alter the approach taken in many previous studies by making an attempt to apply literary rather than sociopolitical criteria to its subject. Rosenberg points out that criticism of Black writing has very often served as a pretext for an expounding on Black history. The recent work of Addison Gayle's passes a judgement on the value of Black fiction by clearly political standards, rating each work according to the ideas of Black identity, which it propounds.

Though fiction results from political circumstances, its author react not in ideological ways to those circumstances, and talking about novels and stories primarily as instruments of ideology circumvents much of the fictional enterprise. Affinities and connections are revealed in the works of Black fiction in Rosenberg's literary analysis; these affinities and connections have been overlooked and ignored by solely political studies.

The writing of acceptable criticism of Black fiction, however, presumes giving satisfactory answers to a quite a few questions. The most important of all, is there a sufficient reason, apart from the racial identity of the authors, for the grouping together of Black authors? Secondly, what is the distinction of Black fiction from other modern fiction with which it is largely contemporaneous? In the work Rosenberg demonstrates that Black fiction is a distinct body of writing, which has an identifiable, coherent literary tradition. He highlights recurring concerns and designs, which are independent of chronology in Black fiction written over the past eighty years. These concerns and designs are thematic, and they come form the central fact of the predominant white culture, where the Black characters in the novel are situated irrespective of whether they attempt to conform to that culture or they rebel against it.

Rosenberg's work does leave certain aesthetic questions open. His thematic analysis allows considerable objectivity; he even clearly states that he does not intend to judge the merit of the various works yet his reluctance seems misplaced, especially since an attempt to appraise might have led to interesting results. For example, certain novels have an appearance of structural diffusion. Is this a defeat, or are the authors working out of, or attempting to forge, a different kind of aesthetic? Apart from this, the style of certain Black novels, like Jean Tooter's Cane, verges on expressionism or surrealism; does this technique provide a counterpoint to the prevalent theme that portrays the fate against which Black heroes are pitted, a theme usually conveyed by more naturalistic modes of expressions?

Irrespective of such omissions, what Rosenberg talks about in his work makes for an astute and worthwhile study. His book very effectively surveys a variety of novels, highlighting certain fascinating and little-known works like James Weldon Johnson's Autobiography of an Ex-Colored Man. Black Fiction is tightly constructed, and levelheaded and penetrating criticism is exemplified in its forthright and lucid style.
